Our Streets Now

Ending Public Sexual Harassment

Our vision is a world free from public sexual harassment. A world which empowers, listens to and believes survivors, and which challenges this culture of gender-based violence and intersecting forms of oppression, rather than upholding it.

Since our launch in 2019, we’ve worked with universities, sports teams, workplaces and local authorities to lead on work to make public spaces safer. We have facilitated workshops with over 5,000 staff, students and professionals and given expert testimony to parliament on the impact of public sexual harassment in places of education. And, in 2023, we changed the law, making public sexual harassment a criminal offence.

But we know there’s more to do. Click below to find out more about how we are tackling harassment in four key areas:

What is Public Sexual Harassment?

Public Sexual Harassment, also known as PSH, comprises any unwelcomed and unwanted attention, sexual advances or intimidating behaviour that occurs in public spaces, both in person and online.

This includes catcalling, wolf whistling, sexualised comments, sexual jokes, taunting, being groped, grabbed or flashed at in public

Public Sexual Harassment is widespread within our society. The majority of women and girls in the UK will experience this violence at some point within their lifetime, and it will often begin during their childhood. Public Sexual Harassment has become a ‘normal’ part of being a girl in the UK.

Workshops and training:

We believe in the value of educating the next generation. We want to break those stereotypes that are learnt and instead create a society that is inclusive, empathic, and ultimately, free from public sexual harassment. That’s why we are continuously evolving and adding to our workshops and tools

What We Do

Raising awareness:

Our heritage is in storytelling. Sharing our experiences of PSH as a community, raising awareness in our own way, together.

Taking Action:

We have a unique position, led by young people, for young people to make a difference. We know that more solutions are needed, and we want to work together to do that.
